Program Summary
Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol (CMCA) is a Substance Abuse
Mental Health Services Administration Model Program aimed at reducing
the availability of alcohol to minors (under 20 years old) by affecting
public support of underage alcohol consumption, changing institutional
policies that enable alcohol use by minors, and enforcement of laws
regulating alcohol sales. The program is directed by a CMCA
Coordinator who recruits community members to serve on the Somerset
County CMCA Task Force. CMCA Taskforce members determine what
factors contribute to the availability of alcohol to minors in Somerset
County and enact strategies such as alcohol sales compliance checks,
alcohol server training, and party patrols.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Somerset County CMCA
Task Force, or if you would like more information about the activities
of this program, please contact Susanna Henson, the CMCA Coordinator, at
410-651-2824.
Recent Activities
The CMCA Program Coordinator worked in partnership with Crisfield High School and Washington School students to develop educational commercials regarding underage alcohol use for the 2011 Junior/Senior prom and the 2011 summer break. The following are the results of this partnership, thanks to the creative work of the students, and funding from the Governor's Office for Children, the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention, and the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Administration through the Somerset County Health Department.
